The BBC has launched Democracy Live, a political iPlayer-style website, offering live and on-demand coverage of Parliamentary sessions.

It will cover all proceedings in all the main chambers government in England, Scotland, Wales and North Ireland. It also allows the public to follow political debates and developments. The home page will consist of an eight-screen video wall covering all proceedings.

The BBC are making attempts to bring iPlayer to Freesat. This is a step towards making iPlayer available on TV sets. The iPlayer service now accounts for 200 million programme views. Freesat will be the first free-to-air TV platform to host the iPlayer.

Though there are no fixed dates for the launch, a spokesman for the platform stated that “users would not need to modify their boxes once it was available”. A web version of the iPlayer which could work with a standard HTML browser is available later this month. These is also a version enabling mobile phones to have access to programmes is also in development.

The U2′s concert from the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California was that was streamed live on YouTube has been deemed a success. 10 million computers across 188 different countries tuned in for the 2hr 21minute event. Streaming was completely free and was shows more indication of the move towards showing more full-length and premium content online.

The event also broadcast a number of other artists including Katy Perry and Will.i.am. This follows last week’s deal between Youtube and Channel 4 in which content such as Peep Show and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares will be shown in full on the video sharing site.

What are your conclusions about these articles: -

The importance of how the media is something that I have written about before. This is just another indication of how the internet is being used to deliver content. The BBC, Channel 4 and other media companies understand how vital it is to use/utilize online media to deliver programming and important information. I see this as just another step towards integration, possibly total integration, of media platforms.

Video search company Blinkx have made plans to raise £5 million, this due to the company’s cash reserves having fallen by £13m in the past year.

There has been an increased of 238% year on year of ad campaigns running around video content. The number of video streams delivered through partnerships has risen to more than 170%.

What are your conclusions about this article: -

This articles show me two things: -

  • How hard the recession is hitting everyone including online media companies.
  • The increase of ads on video sharing sites.

This second issues is something that can be seen across the web. Advertisers have realized the potential for advertising online, particularly as bandwidth connections have increased. And with more and more content becoming available on the web people have been staying on the net for longer and longer periods.

This is now why we see so many ads online and we will continue to do so, this becoming more and more apart of our daily lives.
